Compliance automation platforms for cloud
A compliance platform connects to your cloud and other systems, maps what it finds to controls, and chases people for the rest. Under 30 people on one cloud, native tooling and a free workspace usually do the job.

Compliance automation platforms such as Vanta, Drata and Secureframe cost $7,500 to $50,000 CAD a year. They are worth it when your estate spans many systems, you need endpoint and HR evidence collected automatically, and people chasing is costing real hours. Under about 30 people with one cloud provider, native cloud tooling plus a free workspace or a disciplined evidence folder is usually enough for a first audit.
The three ways to collect evidence
| Option | Annual cost | Covers | Misses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native cloud tooling and a shared drive | Provider usage charges | Cloud configuration history and findings | Mapping, people processes, reminders |
| traztech Workspace plus native tooling | $0 | Control mapping, policies, evidence register, daily checks against AWS, Okta, Google Workspace, GitHub, GitLab, Cloudflare, Jira | Endpoint agents, HR integrations, hundreds of pre-built connectors |
| Paid compliance platform | $7,500 to $50,000 | Hundreds of integrations, endpoint agents, HR systems, policy acknowledgement, auditor portals | Doing the remediation for you |
How deep do platforms go into the cloud?
Platforms read your AWS, Azure and Google Cloud configuration through read-only roles and run tests similar to Security Hub or Defender checks. They show pass or fail per test and link it to controls. They generally do not keep a full configuration history the way AWS Config or Azure Policy does, and many read from those services. Keep the native services on either way.
When a paid platform is the right buy
- More than 50 people, where policy acknowledgement, training and offboarding across many systems become the bulk of the work.
- Several frameworks at once, such as SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA, mapped to one control set.
- Laptops that must be evidenced, since platforms ship endpoint agents.
- An estate spread across many SaaS tools that each need access evidence.
When it is not
- Before the controls exist. A platform shows you what is failing. It does not write the access review procedure or fix the account structure.
- A small team on one cloud with a handful of SaaS tools.
- When the budget would otherwise pay for someone to do the remediation.
TrazTech builds the free workspace and will tell a client when a paid platform is the better purchase, and help set it up. Many teams run both. GetSOC2's compliance software guide compares the platforms from a SOC 2 buyer's side.
Questions to ask a platform vendor
- Which of our cloud services and SaaS tools do you integrate with today, not on the roadmap?
- Does the cloud integration keep history, or only current state?
- Which auditors accept evidence from your auditor portal, and can we use an auditor you do not partner with?
- What is the price at our current headcount and at twice it, in CAD?
- Where is our evidence stored, and can it stay in Canada?
Do I need Vanta or Drata to pass SOC 2 on AWS?
No. Plenty of companies pass with AWS Config, Security Hub, CloudTrail and an organized evidence folder or free workspace. Platforms save time on evidence collection and reminders, especially as headcount grows.
What does a compliance platform cost in Canada?
Published and quoted prices put most platforms between $7,500 and $50,000 CAD a year depending on headcount, frameworks and modules. Auditor fees are separate, even where a platform bundles an introduction.
Can a compliance platform replace a consultant?
No. It automates evidence collection and tracks control status. Someone still has to design controls for your architecture, write policies that match how you work, fix what fails and prepare for fieldwork.
Not sure which route fits?
Firms in the network will tell you whether you need a platform before you buy one.
